The project displays a book cover update for a client featuring The Fault in Our Stars in their upcoming book art gallery. The primary objective highlights the purpose of the client’s vision for capturing the audience’s attention. The real message of this book cover redesign is to make the audience feel comfortable reading the book while learning about the strong relationship between two people who are battling cancer together.
My goal in this redesign is to create a welcoming and comfortable book cover that draws the audience’s attention to read about the relationship of the two characters, and how they support each other in their fight with cancer.
The biggest constraint with redesigning a book cover is not the design process itself, but rather the intriguing design to reel the young adult reader in. The design does need to look perfect, but the book cover needs pull the young adult’s reader attention to want to experience the story. Determining what draws a reader’s attention is similar to looking for a needle in a haystack.
It takes time to properly design a catchy book cover that will connect with young adult readers. The hours dedicated to designing the perfect cover to grab a young adult reader’s attention challenges me be creative and present an acclaimed final product.
My intent as the designer of this book cover is to draw the interest of young adult readers to the book. It is an inspirational story that highlights the ups and downs of cancer, but showcases to the reader that, no matter what the circumstances are, love always finds you. Love happens in mysterious ways, and I want this book cover to display a message that love can find you in the darkest places and bring light to your journey.
